ONE ON ONE DVD in time for MARCH MADNESS 2010!
Robby Benson’s Warner Bros. basketball classic ONE ON ONE (1977) is finally available on DVD. Benson wrote the screenplay for ONE ON ONE (with Jerry Segal) at age 17, not only to expose the issues surrounding the inequities in ‘amateur’ college athletics, he wrote One on One because HE LOVED TO PLAY THE GAME. Benson’s basketball skills at the time were lauded by everyone from John Wooden to Red Auerbach (Robby was offered a spot personally by Auerbach for Celtics rookie camp) to Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Bradley, Reggie Miller, and scores of other top college and NBA and players and coaches through the years.
Cast in Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now, Robby bought out his contract when Warner’s gave One on One the green light. As an actor/athlete Robby Benson was the real thing. (Billy Mills — the only USA 10,000 meter Olympic Gold Medal winner, personally chose Robby to portray him in Running Brave). Plus, any guy from 8 to 80 who saw One on One fell in love with Benson’s love interest, the gorgeous red-headed tutor played by Annette O’Toole.

I can’t wait to hear the monologue where you tell off the guy who says that sports and exercise is stupid, digitally remastered and restored.

Hi Robby
I haven’t seen this movie for years but it’s stayed with me and I’m hoping the dvd will be released in Australia. Would have to say one of my all time favourite movies.
Heartfelt and real and the soundtrack was fantastic.
Went to the WB online website but can only purchase within the US.
I have a friend heading over there in a few weeks – maybe he can purchase it for me somehow.
Thanks for being you!
Kind Regards
Catherine

Yay! I just ordered this off Amazon, even though it was kind of expensive. I love basketball, and can’t wait to see a movie about sport where the actor can actually play!

This was a great movie back in ‘77 and it’s a great movie today. The soundtrack was dead on for the movie and Robby as a basketball player was outstanding. Thank you for Warner Bros for finally releasing this great movie.

Robby my Dad had me watch this movie when I took an interest in basketball in 1982. Man this was one if not the BEST basketball movies of ALL TIME. Rob I’m 40 years old now and I still have it recorded on an old betamax tape, but I need that DVD, cause this was an instant classic!!!!!….thanks for the inspiration. I’ll be talking with you soon. Much love, J. Mason–Fresno, Ca.

Love Robby, love Annette O’Toole, what a winning combo! I’m really not a sports fan, but when a movie is done right, it’s great. Can’t wait to add this to my collection. I hope more of Robby’s films get released on DVD, particularly, ‘Die Laughing’ (That would be so awesome with commentary!) ‘Walk Proud’ and ‘Two of a kind.’

Hi Robby,
I remember seeing “One On One”, when it was first released in theaters back in the 70’s. It will be good to see it again, as you put so much of yourself into this film. I am hoping to see “Ode To Billy Joe,”and “Lucky Lady” on DVD in the future. Also, “Death Be Not Proud”, and ” Our Town”, which you did for television.
